Greater Manchester based Specialist Domestic Violence Support Worker

Role: Domestic Violence Specialist - Health

Based: Greater Manchester

Rate: £15-16 per hour

Qualification(s): SafeLives (previously CAADA) and/ or DAPA is highly desirable

Length: 6 months ongoing

Hours: 35

Start date: Immediate

Our client, a specialist Domestic Abuse charity, is looking to recruit an experienced Domestic Violence Practitioner to join their IRIS team and to support Maternity staff with Domestic Violence support and advice.

The role will be primarily be based from home but will involve travel to hospitals train, support and advise Maternity Staff on Domestic Abuse.

Synopsis of duties:

  • Responsible for delivering domestic violence and abuse (DVA) training to health professionals working with pre and post-natal women within a maternity hospital setting to improve their understanding of domestic violence and abuse (DVA)
  • Providing holistic support and advocacy for the individuals referred by the maternity hospital professionals
  • Managing a caseload of domestic abuse clients which will include carrying out risk and needs assessments (including CAADA DASH RIC assessments) and agreeing support and safety plans
  • Working with Maternity Professionals to increase the numbers of victims identified and referred for support
  • Delivering effective DVA awareness training to clinical and non-clinical staff members based within a maternity hospital setting.
  • Promoting an awareness of the experiences and needs of women who are living with, escaping or have a history of DVA particularly in relation to their health.
  • Developing strategies and utilise appropriate tools (such as the Medical Power and Control Wheel) to demonstrate how health professionals may inadvertently collude with perpetrators

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience of supporting and advocating on behalf of Domestic Violence victims
  • Experience of training and advising partner agencies and professionals including Social Services, NHS Staff, the Police, Probation and Housing Professionals
